Serralves Foundation Tickets
What Is the Serralves Foundation?
Located a 15-minute drive from the centre of Porto, the Serralves Foundation is a unique space that houses different points of interest for lovers of art, landscaping and architecture.
With your ticket to the Serralves Foundation, you'll be able to visit the following spaces in the complex at your own place:
Museum of Contemporary Art
Designed by the prestigious Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza, this building inaugurated in 1999, is a work of art in its own right.
In its interior, you'll find stand-out contemporary works such as Possessão I-VII by Paula Rego or Study for Untitled Wall Piece by Dennis Oppenheim, among other important creations.
The museum also has an auditorium, an audiovisual room and a library with the largest collection of books about contemporary art in northern Portugal.
The Álvaro Siza Wing
This is an extension of the Museum of Contemporary Art, named after the architect who designed it. This space is dedicated to the museum's temporary exhibitions. It also exhibits other works which, for reasons of space, cannot be shown to the public in the permanent collection.
Serralves Villa
In the foundation's complex, you can also visit the Art Deco house which is an absolute architectural gem. In this house, the old residence of Count Carlos Alberto Cabral, you'll discover a unique design and decoration that will transport you back to the 1930s.
Serralves Park & Gardens
The above buildings are located around the Serralves park and gardens, which constitute the central space of the foundation's complex. It's also one of Portugal's first artistic gardens.
The park, which covers an area of 18 hectares (44.4 acres), was designed in the 1930s by the architect Jacques Gréber. In addition to admiring a wide variety of species of trees, plants and shrubs, in these gardens, you'll see various sculptures belonging to the collection of the Serralves Foundation. Among them, it's worth checking out Sky Mirror by Anish Kapoor. There is also a huge red shovel, the work of sculptors Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen.
Treetop Walk
In this place, which was inaugurated in 2019 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Serralves, you'll enjoy a 245-metre (803-ft) long wooden walkway that runs between the treetops of the park.
The Farm
The complex also has a farm on which different animals such as cows, horses, pigs, chickens and donkeys graze.
