Temple in the Sea at Waterloo + La Brea Lake Excursion
Description
At the scheduled time we'll collect you from your chosen hotel in Port of Spain to begin our journey south. Let's go!
After an hour-long journey, we'll reach San Fernando, the second-biggest city in Trinidad & Tobago. From there, we'll continue for another 30 kilometres (18.6 miles) until we arrive at La Brea Lake, also known as Pitch Lake.
La Brea is a natural asphalt deposit that reaches a depth of almost 80 metres (262 ft.). Curiously, some animals live there. And you might ask: what animals can survive without any oxygen? Nature in this region is amazing!
Then, we'll begin our journey towards the town of Carapichaima, where we'll visit the Temple in the Sea at Waterloo, a Hindu sanctuary built in honour of a variety of deities of this spiritual tradition. There, we'll share the story of how a non-Christian temple was built in Trinidad & Tobago.
Nearby, we'll also find the statue of Lord Hanuman, the biggest Hindu statue outside of India. Why was this built on a Caribbean island? What's the meaning of the peculiar shape of the statue?
Finally, we'll bring this excursion to an end after 8 hours together back at the hotels in Port of Spain.
