Nevado del Huila 5-day Hiking Tour

Day 1: Popayán - Belalcázar

We'll pick you up from your hotel in Popayán at 1 pm and drive to Belalcázar. After approximately a five-hour drive, we'll arrive at the hotel where we'll stay and you'll have the rest of the day at your leisure.

Day 2: Belalcázar - Nevado del Huila

We'll wake up early in the morning and start our trekking route to the Nevado del Huila volcano.

First of all, we'll approach the indigenous reserve of Caloto Wila, located at 2100 metres ( 6889 feet) above sea level. We'll meet the inhabitants of this community, most of whom belong to the Nasa ethnic group. We'll satisfy our appetite with a traditional breakfast in the village and at 8 am we'll start the ascent to a point called Dublin, the last place that can be reached by car. Now the hiking adventure begins!

From here, we'll walk along the north side of the Nevado del Huila volcano until we reach a moor, where we'll set up camp and spend the night. We're at an altitude of 3600 metres (11811 feet)!

Day 3: Nevado del Huila

We'll start the day at 6 am with a good breakfast. We'll take a high mountain route and start the second day of the most demanding climb. Towards the middle of the day, we'll reach Las Torres, the monitoring area of the volcano and where we'll camp for the night.

Day 4: Nevado del Huila

After breakfast, we'll leave for the highest part of the Nevado del Huila volcano, at 4800 metres (15748 feet) above sea level.

Those who wish can climb and try to conquer the summit. For this, it's necessary to have experience and the appropriate equipment: ice axes, crampons and harnesses. Those who don't want to climb to the summit will enjoy the breathtaking views of the volcano and its glacier, an experience that you'll never forget!

In the afternoon, we'll start the descent to the base camp where a delicious dinner will be waiting for us.

Day 5: Nevado del Huila - Belalcázar

On the last day, we'll make the descent to Dublín, where the vehicle will be waiting to take us back to Caloto Wila. We'll have lunch and share experiences before finally returning to Belalcázar.

To put the finishing touch to this 5-day excursion, we'll stop in Tóez and enjoy a well-deserved thermal bath in its pools. We'll finish the tour at 6 pm in Belalcázar.

Accommodation

This tour includes two nights' accommodation in an inn in Belalcázar in rooms shared between 4 people. For the rest of the days, you'll have to bring your own tents and sleeping bags to camp at the base camps during the ascent of the Nevado del Huila volcano.
