The Puracé volcano is one of the best places in Colombia for condor watching. On this tour you'll be able to see the majestic flight of these birds and rest at the famous San Juan hot springs.
Condor Watching in Puracé + San Juan Hot Springs Tour
We'll pick you up at 7:40 am at your hotel in Popayán to go to the Puracé National Natural Park, located in the central mountain range of the country, where we'll start climbing through the different indigenous villages of the department. There we'll see the beautiful potato, carrot and strawberry crops, and observe how the farmers and indigenous people extract the milk in the morning. We'll also see the impressive western mountain range from a distance.
At around 10 am we'll arrive at the famous condor stone, where we'll make an offering. From this point we'll enjoy watching the Andean condors from a distance of only 8 metres (26 feet) for at least an hour.
We'll admire the majestic flight of these birds, so characteristic of the Andes, and then we'll continue the route passing through the valley of the frailejones, a plant native to Colombia. Did you know that they grow one centimetre each year?
We'll also go past the Bedón waterfall, located at an altitude of 3600 metres (11811 feet), and the viewpoint from where you can see the Andulbio lagoon, known for its incredible charm and tranquillity.
Then we'll continue the route passing by the magical Pozo de los Deseos, located in the Danta watering place, and we'll arrive at the most awaited place of the excursion: the thermal baths of San Juan.
In the last part of the tour you'll be able to relax in this natural environment. Afterwards, we'll go to a local restaurant to enjoy a delicious typical lunch. The menu consists of grilled fish or meat accompanied by rice, salad, soup, patacones, twice-fried plantain slices, and a hot drink.
After lunch, we'll return to your hotel in Popayán, where we're expected to arrive at 6 pm.
