Murgia Bike Tour

At the scheduled time, we'll meet at Strada Provinciale 230, next to the Poggiorsini gas station. We'll hop on our bikes and start a biking tour to discover the beautiful landscapes of the Murgia region. Let's get pedaling!

We'll start the bike tour in Murgia at Jazzo Filieri, an ancient sheepfold located at the foot of the Costone Murgiano hill. We'll admire the local vegetation and wildlife and discover the great contrasts between the higher altitude areas and the plains.

As we spin around, we'll also come across a series of platforms that were once used by U.S. military forces to test launch weapons of mass destruction - the bases were operational until 1963. We'll talk about the relationship of this place with the Cold War.

Continuing along the Murgia plateau, we'll see farms and wheat fields until we reach the Rocca del Garagnone. The ruins of this fortress blend in with the limestone of the peak on which it is located, a feature that has earned it the nickname of the 'invisible castle'. We'll tell you all about the history of this medieval fortress of Norman origin

After a three-hour experience, we'll finish the bike tour at the starting point.
