Palmenti of Pietranico Tour
At 4 pm, we'll meet at Via Umberto I in Pietranico to begin a walking tour in which we'll discover the wine-making tradition of the Abruzzo region.
During the tour, we'll see several examples of the famous palmenti of Pietranico. These tanks dug into the rocks were once used by farmers to crush the grapes directly in the field without having to take them to a wine press. That way, they could more easily transport the must and use the remaining residue to fertilize their farms.
As we stroll through the areas surrounding Pietranico, we'll spot the different vineyards and check out these ancient tanks. We'll see the Vasca Caprera, the Villa Odoardi and the Mattucci, all of which demonstrate the importance of wine in the Abruzzo region in the Middle Ages, a millenary tradition!
Then, a path of oak trees will lead us back to Pietranico, where we'll enjoy a tasting of various typical products of the region accompanied by exquisite wine. Can you think of a better way to end this visit?
At 5 pm, the tour will conclude near the starting point.
