Head into the Verde Valley & discover its mining tradition in Jerome and take a unique ride aboard the Verde Canyon train. We'll also visit the Montezuma and Tuzigoot monuments!
Jerome Tour + Verde Canyon Train
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Pheonix at 6:30 am to start our route through the region of Verde Valley, where you'll have a panoramic view of Mingus Mountain and the Mogollon Rim.
Our first stop is Montezuma Castle National Monument, nestled in the rock and boasting one of the best-preserved sites in the Hohokam area, with over 700 years of history! From here, we'll head to Tuzigoot National Monument, built by the same local tribe that made Montezuma.
We'll continue our tour by visiting Jerome, one of the cities with the biggest mining traditions in the country, producing minerals since the year 1800. We'll explore its historic streets to discover all the secrets and stories they hold, and find out just why this city was known as the Wickedest City in the West.
Our trip to Valley Verde then continues on wheels, as we climb aboard the iconic Verde Canyon train. From our comfortable seats, we'll admire some unique views of Verde Valley as we enjoy a tasty snack and hear all about the history of this railroad that began operating over 100 years ago. The train weaves its way through the canyon so tightly that you can almost reach out and touch the red rocks. At nearly 2,000 feet above sea level, as you enjoy a tasty lunch, we'll pass beautiful Sedona and the waters of the Verde River.
Following this experience, we'll return to Phoenix and accompany you back to your hotel to conclude the excursion, arriving around 6:30 pm.
