History

The Petra Archaeological Park encompasses the well-preserved remains of the ancient Nabataean capital, one of the oldest cities in the world. Originally settled by the Nabataeans in the 4th century BCE, this city was once home to about 30,000 people.

What makes this ancient city so incredible is that the buildings were not built with bricks, but rather, they were carved out of massive red sandstone cliffs.
