Pereira Panela Tour
Pereira Panela Tour
Having picked you up from your hotel in Pereira at 8 am, we'll begin our panela tour. We'll learn all about this traditional product by travelling to a farm where this natural sweetener is grown.
When we get there, we'll see the sugar cane plantations from which panela is obtained and visit a sugar mill to learn how the final product is made. The trapiches paneleros are small factories where the sugar cane is ground, after which the juice obtained is filtered and beaten in the traditional way. There are around 20,000 of these trapiches in Colombia.
We'll also discuss the importance of panela in Colombian gastronomy, as it's used as a substitute for sugar to sweeten desserts and traditional drinks such as aguapanela, guarapo and chicha.
After familiarising ourselves with the production of panela, we'll head to a natural park where we'll take a pleasant walk. You'll then have some free time to have lunch or explore the surroundings.
At 2 pm, we'll drop you off at your hotel.
