Discover the secrets of Colombian cacao and admire the colonial architecture of Marsella's most representative buildings with this excursion from Pereira.
Marsella Excursion
After picking you up at your hotel in Pereira at 7:30 am, we'll head north towards the town of Marsella, traveling through the coffee plantations of the Cauca River Valley in a 4x4 vehicle.
Following our arrival in Marsella about an hour later, we'll head to a local farm where we'll be welcomed with an appetizer of patacones con hogao, fried plantains with an onion and tomato sauce made with organic products from their own garden.
We'll take a walk through the grounds of the farm to see their fields of cacao trees and learn about the artisanal process of making organic chocolate, from the seed to the tasty steaming cup. You'll be able to see for yourselves the extraction of the cacao beans, the roasting and the grinding, until we get the cacao juice that will later be put to cool.
The result will be a delicious chocolate drink that will serve as an accompaniment to a typical lunch like sancocho (with a base of chicken meat and vegetables), all made with products from the farm.
After refueling, we'll travel to the town of Marsella, where we'll stop for a delicious Colombian coffee in the main square. Here we'll admire the area's colonial architecture in representative buildings like the Casa de la Cultura and its beautiful balconies. Did you know that its rooms make up a museum that has been declared an Asset of Cultural Heritage?
We'll also visit the Botanical Garden, where you can take a leisurely stroll among its flowers and plants, as well as the José María Cemetery, another of Marsella's most popular attractions.
Finally, we will return to Pereira and drop you off at your hotel at 4:30 pm.
