Guática & Quinchía Day Trip
Guática & Quinchía Day Trip
At 7:30 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Pereira and set off for the northern part of the Risaralda region. This mountainous area is where most of the villages in the Western Cordillera of Colombia are located.
After a 2-hour drive in our jeep, we'll come to our first destination of the day. This would be Quinchía, which is also known as the Village of Hills ("Villa de los Cerros" in the local Spanish). Let's find out why!
When we get there, we'll explore the town and visit the Tierras de Xixaraca Archaeological Museum. Here, we'll observe its important collection of Quimbaya artefacts and learn all about the beliefs of the local Indigenous communities.
Our next stop will be at a filigree workshop where local craftsmen will show us their techniques for this unique metalwork, which is typical of Quinchía.
It'll then be time to have lunch, which will be a traditional regional dish and a drink. After we've eaten, we'll head to Guática. This town is very popular in this region due to its varied folklore. While we're here we'll learn about how silk, which is one of its characteristic local products, is made.
In the workshop we'll learn about the planting of mulberry trees, as silkworms feed on their leaves. We'll also find out how the material is treated and used to make fabrics by craftsmen from this area. Afterwards, you'll have time to buy souvenirs to commemorate this unique experience.
We'll then return to Pereira and drop you off at your hotel, where we should arrive at around 4:30 pm.
Tour without lunch
If you'd prefer to bring your own lunch with you, this is the best option for you. You'll have time to have lunch on your own before we visit Guática.
