Venture into Colombia's coffee-growing region to explore Filandia and Salento. Also, get your backpack ready for a walk in the Cocora Valley, a natural, green paradise. Three special places in one day!
Description
After picking you up at your hotel, we'll leave Pereira for a 50-minute drive through the Colombian coffee region.
Our first destination will be Cocora Valley, do you know the "secret of the thousand greens"? In this natural paradise, we'll walk among the greenery of up to a thousand shades of colour, and discover the story of the Princess Cocora.
To learn all about the Wax Palm, we'll go to 3 different viewpoints to admire the typical beauty of the landscape and all its curiosities.
Afterwards, we'll enjoy lunch before getting back on the road and heading to Salento, an Antioquian-style town whose lively streets and colourful facades will charm you. We'll get lost among its houses, and balconies full of flowerpots, until we arrive at the Calle Real, the heart of the town.
As we continue walking, we'll find the Camino del Quindío, which was the traditional route between Cartago and Ibagué. Have you heard of the Camino del Quindío Festival? The inhabitants of the neighbouring town of Filandia turn into historical characters, patriots, and Spaniards for days to relive the most active days of the route.
Do you know where you can see the best panoramic views of Salento? It's the Alto de la Cruz viewpoint! Locals and visitors flock here to admire the most picturesque villages of the Colombian coffee region.
Next, we'll head to the small town of La Colina Iluminada, a charming place to enjoy the views of Quindio. After this brief stop, we'll head to Filandia, where we'll take a complete 2-hour guided tour to discover all the charms of the town.
We'll walk through the streets of Filandia admiring its houses and local stores, and arrive at the Street of Stopped Time, 'la calle del Tiempo Detenido'. We'll visit the Central Park, one of the most bustling spots in this town and a hub for coffee farmers. From here, we'll admire the emblematic Templo María Inmaculada church, whose blue and white front will win you over. We'll also learn about basket weaving and visit the Museo de los Abuelos (Grandparents' Museum).
Finally, we'll return to Pereira and accompany you to your accommodation to finish the tour after 9 hours of travel.
