San José Caves Day Trip
At the designated time, we'll meet in front of the Peniscola Tourist Office and kick off our San José Caves Day Trip. We'll drive 65 miles (105 kilometres) in the minibus to these stunning caves, which are found in Vall de Uxó, within the Sierra Espadán Natural Park.
Did you know that the San José caves were inhabited over 15,000 years ago? You'll hear lots of other fun facts while we take a boat trip through the caves' interior and sail along the longest underground river in Europe. The total depth of this place is a mystery, as speleologists have not yet been able to calculate it.
From our boat, we'll be able to see the breathtaking stalactites and stalagmites that dot the walls of the Vall de Uxó caves. We'll also walk through a beautiful 820-foot (250 metre) long gallery. You'll be surprised to find that the temperature in the cave doesn't change, as it remains 20ºC all year round.
After 40 minutes of exploring caves and learning about their geological features, we'll return to ground level. We'll then head back to Peniscola, where we'll arrive after a total of 5 or 6 hours.
