Ever been inside an old mine? On this excursion, you'll explore the Maestrazgo Mining Park and visit the Templar town of Culla, two must-see places in the province of Castellón!
Maestrazgo Mining Park & Culla Excursion
We'll pick you up at the Tourist Office in Peñíscola at 8:10 am and set off by minibus to the region of Alto Maestrazgo. After a little over an hour's drive, we'll arrive at the Maestrazgo Mining Park, where you'll have the chance to experience life as a miner.
The mining train will take us to the first network of underground galleries that we visit, the Victoria mine. As we explore these cavities, illustrative videos and the guide's explanations will give us an idea of how people used to work in these mines. You'll also be able to get a close look at original mining carts and other tools used hundreds of years ago.
Next, we'll visit the Esperanza mine, where we'll learn what minerals were extracted from this area of Levante, paying special attention to the geological conditions of the mines. You'll be able to see roots breaking through the walls of the grotto, natural pools and centuries-old stalactites.
Back on the surface, we'll get back on the minibus and head to Culla. Did you know that this historic town was the last to be taken by the Templars? We'll learn all about the Templar roots of Culla and pass by its most famous monuments, including the 11th-century castle, the Commander's granary and the old hospital.
Finally, we'll begin our return to Peñíscola, where arrival is scheduled for 2:15 pm.
