Description

At the Straits and Oriental Museum, you can enjoy the best of multiple worlds: a museum, art gallery, restaurant, café, bar, and gift shop, all conveniently located in one place. As the first cultural center of Malaysia and Penang, this venue provides a comprehensive experience where you can delve into the history, cuisine, and culture of both the country and the island. Don't miss this opportunity to explore it all in one visit!

The museum proudly showcases ancient ceramics retrieved from shipwrecks, leaving visitors in awe of the sheer quantity of authentic pieces salvaged from maritime journeys. The collection includes artifacts from well-known wrecks like the Wanli, the Turiang, the Royal Nanhai, the Nanyang, the Xuande, and the Desaru.

Situated within the St. Jo's building, formerly known as St. Joseph's Novitiate, the Straits and Oriental Museum holds a unique place in Penang's heritage. Notably, it also features a chapel adorned with remarkable stained glass windows. This museum is highly recommended, offering a blend of cultural and historical treasures.
