The La Cocha lagoon and the Santa Lucía wetlands are two of the best places around Pasto for hiking routes. Explore them with this excursion, which also includes fishing in the Guámuez River.
La Cocha Lagoon, Santa Lucía Wetlands Tour + Guamúes River Fishing
We'll meet at 7:30 am in front of the Nariño monument to head towards La Cocha Lake, the first natural attraction of our itinerary. In less than an hour, we'll arrive at the beautiful spot of this lake, the second largest in Colombia.
Here we'll start a walk following the path of El Puerto, which runs along the banks of a stream. Then, we'll take a boat that will take us sailing through the wetlands of Santa Lucia, a protected area where we can find the lowest moorlands in the country, located at 2600 metres (8530 feet) above sea level!
We'll walk along its paths through the valleys of frailejones, plants that can reach up to two metres in height. Did you know that they grow by one centimetre every year? We'll then travel to the village of Santa Isabel, where we'll stop at a local family's house for a delicious homemade lunch.
In the afternoon, we'll take another boat on the Guámuez River. Here we'll do some fishing, one of the most popular activities in the area. We'll look for the right spot to cast our hooks, and let's go fishing!
Afterwards, we'll return to the mainland and stop at a hotel overlooking La Cocha lake for refreshments. Finally, we'll return to Pasto and leave you at the departure point at around 7:30 pm.
