Located within the Hôtel National des Invalides, the 7th arrondissement in Paris, the Musée de l'Armée or the Army Museum is one of the most important military museums in the world.
Your ticket to the Musée de l'Armée will grant you access to the following spaces, all of which are inside the Hôtel National des Invalides:
Permanent Exhibition
The permanent exhibition at the Museo de l’Armée houses one of the best and most important collections of military art and history anywhere in the world. It is the perfect place to learn about the history of France from the Middle Ages to the present times.
Among the main pieces of the exhibition lies the collections of armour and weapons of the past kings of France, the uniforms of past soldiers of Napoleon and a diverse range of artefacts from the Second World War. You'll also be able to see paintings, photographs, swords and cannons belonging to the main military figures in France's history.
Temporary Exhibition
Your ticket will also allow you to enter the temporary exhibition that is at present in the museum.
Dôme des Invalides
The Dôme de Invalides is very recognisable on the Paris skyline. This place has been home to the monumental tomb of Napoleon I since the year 1861.
Museo de l’Ordre de la Libération
The Musée de l'Ordre de la Libération or Museum of the Order of Liberation is dedicated to the order founded by Charles de Gaulle in 1940. Its collection will allow you to learn about the history of independent France, from the internal resistance to the deportation.
Museo des Plans-Reliefs
This collection is dedicated to the exhibition of military figures and will give insight into two centuries of military history.
Opening Times
The Musée de l'Armée opens from Monday to Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. The various exhibition rooms with be vacated 15 minutes before the closing time of the museum. The front desk will be closed approximately 30 minutes before closure.
Special opening time: Tuesday, November 5, the museum will be open at 11 am.
Nighttime opening times: On the first Friday of every month, the museum extends its opening hours from 6 pm to 10 pm. The ticket office closes at 9 pm. If you wish to visit the museum during this time, you'll have to buy a ticket at the ticket office for € 10 (US$ 10.43) per person.
Please keep in mind that these opening times are flexible and are subject to change.
Free Entry
Free entry to the museum is permitted on the July 14 and on the days of European Heritage Day.
During the whole year, entry to the museum is free for young adults of the European Union between the ages of 18 and 26, for those under the age of 18 of any nationality, for those who are disabled and their carers and for those who are holders of Pass Education. To get free tickets to entry, please go to the main desk of the museum with a valid form of identification.
In the case of the young adults of the European Union ages between 18 and 26 and those who are holders of Pass Education, if you wish to visit the temporary exhibition you'll have to purchase a ticket for € 5 (US$ 5.21) per person. These tickets are available on the museum website and at the front desk.
Temporary Exhibition
Between April 24 - August 18, 2024, you can visit the Temporary Exhibition called Duels, L´art du combat.
It's an interesting display of art about combat fights. Throughout the exhibit, you'll discover curious facts about fights, such as its origins and evolution, legislation and much more.
