Vincent Van Gogh Walking Tour
We'll meet at 8:00 am at the Gare du Nord in Paris, where the guide will be waiting for you to board the train to Pontoise, the starting point of this guided walk in the footsteps of Vincent van Gogh.
You'll start this 8.7 miles (14 km walk) by visiting Pontoise, the former capital of the Vexin. Discover this green, peaceful and charming region which is only 30 kilometres from Paris! Then we'll continue our walk through the Vexin countryside via Auvers-Sur-Oise. This charming town is home to the Maison-Atelier de Daubigny, the first artistic home of Auvers created in 1861 by Charles-François Daubigny himself. Many painters have passed through these walls and left their mark.
As you walk through the countryside of the French Vexin Regional Nature Park, which covers some 175445 acres (71,000 hectares), you'll be able to recognise some of the landscapes drawn by artists such as Camille Pissaro, Paul Cézanne and Vincent van Gogh. Van Gogh himself is buried in the area, you can even visit the famous artist's grave.
The walk also takes you to the Château d'Auvers, built in the 17th century by an Italian banker before passing into the hands of the king's advisor Jean de Lery, who transformed this Italian pavilion into a French-style château. This castle inspired Vincent van Gogh's famous painting 'Landscape with the Chateau of Auvers at Sunset'.
We'll walk along the Oise River and end our tour in Mériel after 4 and a half hours of walking.
