Private Borneo Cruise and Orangutan Sighting

  • 69 reviews | 752 travellers
We loved being alone on a wooden barge, living on board the river, and stopping to see the orangutans and the proboscis monkeys. It may be a bit repetitive, but the experience is very good. Relaxing, the guide and people are super nice, and the food is delicious.

Description

Day 1

We will meet up at Iskandar airport in the morning, and from there we will head to the area of Kumai. Once there, we will set off on our klotok, a traditional wooden Indonesian boat that will act as our floating house during the three-day cruise through Borneo.

We drift down the Sekonyer river until reaching the Tanjung Harapan rehabilitation center for Orangutans. Our journey there will take us through the wildest side of Borneo where you will see animals such as the proboscis monkey, Macaques, and exotic birds.

At the Tanjung Harapan reserve, you will see the orangutans in the middle of the jungle wilderness. Respecting their space, you'll see just how loving and affectionate they really are.

After, we will return to the Klotok to enjoy the sunset over the river Sekonyer. Finally, we will end our intense day with a delicious candlelight meal as we are gently pulled along by the currents of the river while hearing the sounds of the jungle wildlife that surrounds us.

Day 2

After waking to the break of dawn and the first sounds of the stirring jungle animals, we will have filling breakfast before we head to the camp at Pondok Tanggui. There you will have a fun time watching the affectionate orangutans of all ages and sizes.

Later, we will climb back aboard our klotok and head to the Leakey camp. During the two-hour journey, you will have time to relax, admire the surrounding nature and enjoy a delicious meal on board.

When you arrive at Camp Leakey, you can choose between enjoying a hiking route through the Indonesian jungle or visiting the information center. Later, we will head to the Nipa Palm area, also known as the house of Fireflies. In this enclosure, we will admire these incredible insects that endow the area with a magical and spectacular aura.

Please note that we cannot guarantee the sighting of fireflies during our trip because they are wild animals, whose behavior is unpredictable. Their sighting depends on several factors, such as the day's season or light.

Before the end of the day, we'll go on a fun night trek to look for orangutans—the moonlit experience is unparalleled!

Finally, we'll have dinner on board our floating house and then have a good night’s rest following an intense day.

Day 3

We will have breakfast on board the boat and then we will travel along the river to Kumaiand. Here, we'll climb onto an air-conditioned vehicle that will take us to the airport of Pangkalan Ban for about 9:30 sm, when we'll say goodbye following three magnificent days of the cruise.

4 day cruise

With this option, you can extend your experience in Borneo. We will visit more thrilling places such as a center of reforestation, where you can plant some trees to help preserve the environment and learn about some of the curative properties of the native flora. We will also visit a small local village where we can enjoy the customs and traditions of the people and you will have your own free time to explore the local culture.

Accommodation

The accommodation on the tour through Borneo will be a traditional klotok. This boat, some 50 feet in length, is equipped with mattresses, cushions, mosquito net, a kitchen and a bathroom.

During the tour, you will be attended by a professional crew, composed of a captain, a chef, and an English-speaking guide.
