Free Walking Tour of Panama City
Panama City Free Walking Tour
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the steps of the Gazebo in the centre of the Plaza de la Independencia in Panama City to begin this free tour of the old town.
Our first stop will be in front of the Santa María la Antigua Cathedral, a temple crowned by two bell towers decorated with mother-of-pearl inlays. Its façade is full of classical and Renaissance elements carved into the stone.
We'll walk through the Plaza Herrera, one of the most central points of the municipality, where the classic bullfights used to be held. We'll enter the church of San José to contemplate a priceless jewel: the Altar de Oro, an 18th-century Churrigueresque carving made of mahogany wood covered in gold.
The tour will continue to the Santo Domingo Church to admire the Arco Chato, an 18th-century structure that used to support the old choir of the parish. We'll continue our route to the Plaza Francia, where seven vaulted spaces that formed part of the city's defences can be seen.
Then we'll go to the Esteban Huertas promenade, a 19th-century parapet from where we'll have an exceptional view of the bridge of the Americas.
The tour will end after 2 hours and 15 minutes at Plaza Bolívar.
