Day Trip to the San Lorenzo & San Jeronimo Forts
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Panama City at 8 am. We'll board a bus that will take us to Portobelo, where we'll visit two imposing fortifications on the Caribbean coast of Panama. Did you know that they have been a World Heritage Site since 1980?
During the excursion, we'll discover the forts of San Lorenzo and San Jeronimo, two examples of defense built by the Spanish in the 17th and 18th centuries. But before entering, we'll tell you about the importance of Panama as a strategic point in the Americas. It's a fascinating history.
First, we'll enter the fort of San Lorenzo, which was an important Spanish military fort on the Caribbean coast. While we walk through the remains, we'll travel back in time and learn about the different pirate attacks that these walls protected from.
Later, we'll visit the fort of San Jeronimo, founded in 1597 by Francisco Velarde, an especially interesting Spanish conquistador.
After touring both monuments, we'll return to our hotels in Panama City, where we'll arrive 7 hours after pickup.
