Colon & Panama Canal Tour
Colon & Panama Canal Tour
We'll pick you up at 8 am at your hotel in Panama City and drive to the Caribbean coast of the country.
After a one-hour drive we'll arrive in Colon, one of the most outstanding cities on the northern coast of Panama. First, we'll visit the neighbourhoods of Margarita and Rainbow City, which housed the communities of the former workers of the Caribbean zone of the Panama Canal.
Next, we'll head to the former Fort Gulick, where we'll see the facilities of the defunct United States Army School of the Americas. This military training centre, administered by the United States, trained several Latin American dictators such as Panama's Manuel Antonio Noriega, Chile's Augusto Pinochet and Nicaragua's Daniel Ortega.
The next stop will take place at another outstanding military site on the shores of the Caribbean area of the Panama Canal. This is the former Fort Davis, which currently houses the National Police officers' academy. After learning about its history, we'll continue the tour next to the locks in the northern part of the canal.
The tour will continue to the former Sherman military base, and from there we'll go to a restaurant at the Shelter Bay Marina for a 30-minute lunch on your own. Finally, we'll take a scenic tour of Colon where we'll see other prominent military posts such as the Morgan Battery.
From Colon we'll finally return to your hotel in Panama City, where we'll arrive at 2 pm.
