Panama Canal Cruise to Colón
Description
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at Flamenco Marina, where we'll hop on a boat to begin this cruise on the Panama Canal, where we'll traverse the country by sailing from the Pacific Ocean into the Atlantic. Incredible, right?
But before we begin our journey, enjoy a light breakfast aboard the boat. After setting off, we'll arrive at our first stop of the trip, the Bridge of the Americas, which connects North and Central America with South America. We'll see an impressive view of the group of islands that appear as though they are protecting the Canal. In addition, during the route, we'll also see the impressive Panama City skyscrapers.
Halfway through the boat ride, we'll take a break for lunch and afterwards, we'll pass by the famous Miraflores lock. Once we've crossed it, we'll experience a very curious sensation. This system lifts the boat to the highest level of the Canal at Gatún Lake. Next, we'll pass through the Pedro Miguel lock, and upon leaving it, we'll see the entrance to the Chagres River, the source of fresh water of the Panama Canal.
As well as this, we'll traverse the Gatún Lake, which stretches to 425 square kilometres (162 square miles). This has dozens of islands, including the Isla de los Monos and the Barro Colorado. Did you know that this is one of the biggest lakes in the world?
After this game of locks, we'll arrive at the city of Colón, on the Caribbean coast of Panama, where we'll catch a bus and begin our return journey to the starting point.
Finally, we'll say our goodbyes at Flamenco Marina after a total of 11 hours together.
