Sierra Nevada Indigenous Community Visit
Activity Details
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Palomino and head by bus to the jungle of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. This coastal mountain range has the highest peaks in the Colombian Caribbean, so its flora and fauna guarantee unique landscapes that will surprise you!
Upon arrival, we'll walk among crops and fruit trees to learn about the work of farmers in the region. After half an hour, we'll reach the indigenous community of Tengueka, where we'll make a first offering and give a gift to the children of the community. We'll start the day in the most traditional way possible!
During our tour, we'll talk about the ancestral traditions of the indigenous people of the Sierra Nevada. We'll discover the daily life of the Arhuacos, the Kogis and other tribes of the area. We'll also show you tools used by the locals, like the poporo or the gamancalas.
Among the typical flora, trees like the ceiba, higuerón, mastre and caracolí stand out. Each tree offers properties that the locals take advantage of for their routine and that we'll discover during the tour. In addition, we'll take a walk along the banks of the river, where you can refresh yourself by taking a dip in its waters.
From here, we'll return to the community to enjoy a delicious typical lunch prepared with fish and vegetables.
Then, after an exciting 8 hours of adventure, we'll return to your hotel in Palomino.
