Calakmul Day Trip
At 4.45 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Palenque and head east to Campeche, where we'll find one of the largest Mayan nature reserves in Mexico: Calakmul.
This Mayan city was discovered in the 1930s almost by chance. This archaeological site possesses an extraordinary beauty, along with immense historical relevance to the study of this civilization. So much so that in 2002 it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Calakmul has about 70 square kilometers (43 miles) of land, more than 6,700 buried structures, as well as a large number of stelae, carved stone monoliths that narrated the key events of the Mayan civilization in Calakmul over its nearly 1,500 years of history.
We'll explore this incredible Mayan archaeological site as we stroll through the trails of the city. We'll admire its five buildings, as well as the Great Plaza, the Ball Court, and the acropolis. Our guide, specialized in Mayan culture, will explain all you need to know to become well-versed in Mayan culture.
Lastly, we'll return to your hotel in Palenque, ending the tour.
