Paestum Archeological Park Private Tour
At the selected time, we'll meet at the Archaeological Park of Paestum to begin a tour of this important site in southern Italy. Did you know that this land was once known as Magna Grecia in the Classical Age?
Our guided tour of Paestum will begin with a review of its Greek origins and its eventual conquest by the Romans. We'll also tell you how natural phenomena such as the overflowing of the Salso River contributed to the abandonment of this city.
First, we'll visit the temple of Hera, the oldest on the site, dating back to the 6th century BC. Not far from here we'll find the temple of Poseidon, the largest temple of Paestum and the one that gives its name to the archaeological park. After admiring its huge Doric colonnades, we'll visit the sanctuary of Athena, which stands out for the Christian tombs found on its grounds since later it also served as a church.
The guided tour will then take us along the Via Sacra towards the forum and the Roman amphitheater of Paestum. As the perfect tour's final touch, we'll access the National Archaeological Museum to admire original pieces found on the site. What's more, we'll enjoy a visit to the remarkable Tomb of the Swimmer.
After a two-hour tour, we'll end the guided tour then. If you wish, you can continue exploring it at your own leisure.
