On our Padula Charterhouse Private Guided Visit, we'll discover one of the most beautiful and little-known monuments in southern Italy. We'll visit the cloister, the baroque church and the different rooms in this monastic complex.

Padula Charterhouse Private Guided Visit

At your chosen time, we'll meet you at the entrance of the Padula Charterhouse to start our guided visit of this monastery, which is a World Heritage Site.

Also known as the Monastery of San Lorenzo, this 14th-century monument is the second-largest Carthusian complex in Italy and one of the largest in Europe. During our guided visit, you'll walk through the cloisters, head inside the kitchens and refectory and see the treasury and the church's exquisite Baroque architecture.

As we explore the Padula Charterhouse, we'll share lots of facts about this building's fascinating history. For example, did you know that it was sacked by Napoleon's soldiers and that it was a prison during World War I?

We'll then enter the Archaeological Museum of Western Lucania, which is located within the monastery's premises. Here, you'll see ancient artefacts such as vases, ancient coins and everyday utensils. These antique objects range from the protohistoric to the Hellenistic period.

After a 2-hour visit, we'll say our goodbyes inside the monument complex. If you like, you can continue exploring the monastery at your leisure after the tour.
