Hacienda Chimalpa & Zempoala Convent Day Trip
Hacienda Chimalpa & Zempoala Convent Day Trip
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Pachuca and set off for one of the most famous pulque haciendas in the state of Hidalgo. Did you know that pulque is also known as the Nectar of the Gods?
The origin of this drink is unknown, but it appeared in the writings of Central America's Indigenous Peoples as early as the year 200. It's made from the fermentation of the maguey, or aguamiel (honeywater), plant and is one of the most popular traditional liquors in Mexico.
We'll visit the Hacienda Chimalpa and learn all about the work they do and their maguey plantations. During our visit, we'll see the main building, the monumental church and the colonial-style chapel. This ranch hosts a variety of events and shows, so we'll also get to see facilities such as Trojes Hall or the Ruedo, where equestrian shows are held.
After this part of the tour, we'll set off for our next destination and make a stop at the Padre Tembleque Aqueduct. This aqueduct is an incredible feat of hydraulic engineering and was constructed in the 16th century during the period of the Viceroyalty of New Spain.
Next, we'll head to Zempoala Convent, which is also known as the Todos los Santos Convent. This Plateresque-style building has an elegant façade that features segmental arches and beautiful columns. Together with the aqueduct, they make up the ensemble known as the Hydraulic System of the Aqueduct of Padre Tembleque, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We'll see its temple, chapel and atrium and learn all about the history of the Franciscan order that decreed its construction.
Finally, we'll stop in the village of Zempoala so you can have lunch on your own before we return to Pachuca. We'll drop you off at your hotel 10 hours after pickup.
