Inklings Tour of Oxford
Description
At the agreed time, we'll meet up on Broad Street to embark on a fascinating walking tour through Oxford, retracing the footsteps of J.R.R. Tolkien, the renowned author of The Lord of the Rings.
Our first stop will be near the awe-inspiring Radcliffe Camera, a building so majestic that it inspired Tolkien's vision of Sauron's mighty temple dedicated to Morgoth. Imagine stepping into the realm of Middle Earth right here in Oxford!
Continuing our journey, we'll make our way to Merton College, where Tolkien taught English philology and literature for 14 years. The writer spent countless hours in the college library, drawing from its rich collection of mythological texts that provided the foundation for his novels.
But that's not all! We'll also venture into the University of Oxford's Botanical Garden through Addison's Walk, a path that Tolkien cherished. Prepare to be enchanted by the natural beauty that echoes the landscapes of Middle Earth, as described in The Hobbit and The Silmarillion.
And of course, we can't miss The Eagle and Child tavern, the meeting place where Tolkien and other literary greats gathered for lively discussions. Raise a glass in this historic pub and feel the creative energy that once filled its walls.
Finally, after a fascinating 2.5 hours, we'll conclude the tour by returning to the starting point.
