Learn all the details of the harrowing history of the Holocaust in Poland with this guided tour of Auschwitz-Birkenau, a place that saw thousands of people suffer and die at the hands of the Nazis.
Description
At the indicated time, we'll meet at Więźniów Oświęcimia den Oświęcim. Once we're all there, we'll start a tour of the concentration camp that marked a before and after in the history of Europe.
The tour will start in the area of Auschwitz I, the original camp, where we'll find the infamous inscription Arbeit Macht Frei: work will set you free. This compound held up to 20,000 prisoners in 1942 and housed Block 11, where prisoners were hanged, starved and executed.
We'll visit some of the barracks where thousands of people lived in overcrowded conditions and we'll learn about the depraved experiments of Dr. Josef Mengele. This perimeter also contained a brothel for inmates with extra privileges.
After a 10-minute break, we'll enter Auschwitz II-Birkenau, a site created for extermination. There we'll observe the train tracks where wagons full of Jews, Romani and Sinti people as well as members of the LGBTQ community arrived and were selected for forced labor or death.
During the tour, we'll also walk to the watchtower and the remaining barracks, as others were destroyed by the Germans before the arrival of the Red Army. At the end of the large esplanade, we'll see where the gas chambers and crematorium ovens were located, which were also destroyed before the liberation of the camp.
Finally, we'll conclude the tour back at the starting point after 2 hours and 40 minutes.
