If you love history and nature, don't miss this day trip to the lakes and basilica of Covadonga, Cangas de Onís and the Asturian Coast. Let's go!

Description

We'll pick you up at the indicated time at the meeting point of your choice, and from there we'll travel to the east of the Principality of Asturias to visit the famous Lakes of Covadonga, a beautiful set of lakes located in the western massif of the Picos de Europa National Park.

The first stop will be at the Entrelagos viewpoint, where we'll enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of Lake Ercina and Lake Enol. After learning about the glacial origin of both lakes, we'll head for the Basilica of Santa María la Real de Covadonga. Next to this neo-Romanesque temple, built between 1877 and 1901, we'll learn about the history of King Pelayo and the Spanish Reconquest.

We'll continue the tour at the Covadonga Sanctuary, where we'll see the cave that houses the image of the Virgin, popularly known as the Santina. We'll also visit the Royal Pantheon, where the remains of Don Pelayo and other Asturian kings rest.

After visiting the Covadonga Sanctuary, we'll head for Cangas de Onís, where we'll enjoy a short guided tour. After this short tour, you'll have 2 hours of free time to get yourself lunch. You can also take advantage of this time to take pictures next to the iconic Roman bridge of Cangas. Under its arch, you'll also see the famous Victoria Cross, one of the main symbols of the Principality of Asturias

If you start the tour from Cangas de Onís, after the short guided walk through the town we'll end the tour in this village.

On the other hand, if you start the route from Oviedo or Gijón, after a brief visit to Cangas de Onís and 2 hours of free time for lunch and shopping, we'll continue the trip towards the coast. We'll stop at the San Roque viewpoint, from where we'll enjoy beautiful views of the coast and the village of Lastres.

Finally, from the San Roque viewpoint, we'll return to the different meeting points in Oviedo and Gijón.
