We'll see petroglyphs, stone castings and other remains on this archaeological tour of Valle del Encanto, one of the main archaeological sites in Chile.
Description
After picking you up from your hotel in Ovalle, we'll head to the Valle del Encanto, an important archaeological site from Prehistory about 20 km (12.5 miles) away.
We'll start our visit by observing the petroglyphs of the Valle del Encanto. As historians have pointed out, these stone engravings could belong to the Molle culture. During the route, we'll learn all about the characteristics of this ancient population, whose origins date back over 2,000 years.
As we continue our archaeological tour through the Encanto Valley, we'll contemplate the various remains of stone castings. On these stone surfaces, we'll see a series of circular concavities drilled into the rock. It's believed that the function of these holes could have been for grinding food. Other experts, however, point to a ceremonial use.
Then, we'll walk around the prehistoric site, we'll discover what the real use of the stone castings was, the remains of which are spread over a large part of central Chile and its surroundings.
Finally, we'll leave this site and return to your hotel in Ovalle, where we'll arrive at 1 pm.
