Visit two historic cities in Minas Gerais in one day! On this tour to Tiradentes and São João del-Rei, we'll go back to the 18th century to discover the origins of these two colonial towns.
Day Trip to Tiradentes & São João del-Rei
After picking you up at your hotel in Ouro Preto at 7 am, we'll head southwest to São João del-Rei. The minibus ride will take about three and a half hours.
Once there, we'll get out of the vehicle and take a guided tour of São João del-Rei, a beautiful town that dates back to 1713. We'll stroll through the streets traveling back in time to the colonial era, and see the colorful low houses of the historic center.
During the tour, we'll also visit the churches of Carmen and Pilar, two perfect examples of Brazilian colonial baroque art. You'll be fascinated by their beauty!
Before leaving the city, we'll visit the Tancredo Neves museum-memorial to learn about the sad story of this Brazilian politician, a native of São João del-Rei. Afterwards, we'll leave you an hour of free time to have lunch on your own.
Very close to São João del-Rei, we find Tiradentes, our next stop of the day. Did you know that it was also founded in the 18th century? We'll tour the old town and its main monuments, such as the church of San Antonio and the old jail. We'll also visit the Padre Toledo Museum, a manor house that maintains the same style as the houses of the nobles in Portugal.
We'll finish the excursion at 5 pm, leaving you back at your hotel.
