On this tour to Tiradentes and Congonhas, we'll travel back in time following the trail of the European colonizers of the 17th and 18th centuries. We'll also visit the Sanctuary of the Good Jesus of Matosinhos, declared a World Heritage Site.
Day Trip to Tiradentes & Congonhas
At 7 am we'll pick you up at your hotel in Ouro Preto and start this excursion that will take us to visit two historical cities in the state of Minas Gerais.
The first stop of the day will be in Congonhas, founded in the 17th century by the first settlers who came to the interior of Brazil in search of natural resources. We'll review this exciting chapter of history with a guided tour of the old town.
We'll stroll through the streets of Congonhas contemplating emblematic places such as the Chapel of the Steps and the colonial houses that are spread throughout this town. We'll also visit the History Museum and the Sanctuary of the Good Jesus of Matosinhos, a temple with many European Baroque influences. It's a World Heritage Site!
We'll return to the minibus and head to Tiradentes. Its colonial buildings already give us the hint of origins very similar to those of Congonhas.
During the tour of Tiradentes, we'll see its old jail, admire the church of San Antonio and visit a museum that will allow us to delve into the city's past. After the tour, we'll leave you two hours of free time to have lunch on your own.
We'll finish the tour at 5 pm and drop you back off at your hotel in Ouro Preto.
