2-Day Private Desert Tour
Day 1
On the morning of your tour, you'll be picked up from your hotel in Ouarzazate and taken in the direction of Tinghir, a city in one of the most beautiful oases in southern Morocco. Your journey will take you along the Route of the Thousand Kasbahs, well named for the many fortresses that line the ancient road; the surprising Valley of Roses and finally the Dadès Valley. Here, you'll stop to discover the Dadès Gorges and admire the complex geological formations that make up this rugged rocky valley, like Monkey Fingers Canyon and the Todra Gorge.
Continue on your route towards the town of Merzouga, crossing the palm groves famous for their delicious dates, and making a stop to eat before reaching Erfoud, a small oasis town that is home to a number of fossil fragments.
Arriving in Merzouga, you'll leave the comfort of your air-conditioned vehicle behind and immerse yourself in the desert scenery in the most typical way possible: riding a camel across the dunes to the haima - the traditional Amazigh tent - where you'll spend the night.
Under dark and silent skies, surrounded by miles and miles of sand, you'll enjoy an authentic Moroccan meal before a good night's sleep.
Day 2
Have you heard the saying, "the early bird catches the worm"? On this occasion, the "worm" in question is a camel ride to see a spectacular sunrise over Erg Chebbi, the most beautiful area of the Merzouga desert. Getting up first thing in the morning will be well worth it for this unforgettable experience!
After a breathtakingly beautiful start to the morning, you'll be taken to the camp to shower and enjoy breakfast, before starting the next part of your Moroccan desert tour. Today, you'll make your way to the Tafilalet Palm Grove near the historic town of Rissani, the place from which Morocco's current royal family, the Alaouite dynasty, originates. From here, you'll head to Alnif and take the road through the magnificent Anti-Atlas Mountains.
Along your route to the Amazigh communes of Tazarine and N'kob, you'll have incredible views of the stunning peaks surrounding you, the Draa Valley and its palm groves. You'll cross the famous Tizi N'Tnifift mountain pass located at over 3,800 feet (1660 m), before arriving back in Ouarzazate at around 5 pm.
Accommodation
When making your reservation, you'll have the choice between two accommodation options in the Moroccan desert: standard and luxury. Both hotels and tents are double occupancy only, there are no single rooms. You can however ask for a triple room or a family room if you prefer. The standard category rooms have communal showers in the camp, while the superior category rooms have a private bathroom in the haimas and showers in the camp. Also, air-conditioning in the luxury camps has an additional charge of € 30 (US$ 31.60) per person.
