On our Otranto private tour, you'll explore the easternmost city in Italy. We'll travel through its streets, see its main monuments and discover its historic links with Spain. You'll be accompanied by a guide just for you and your partner, family or friends.
Description
At your chosen time, we'll see you in Piazza Castello in Otranto, which sits in the heel of the Italian boot. From this point in the old quarter, we'll set off on a walking tour of its most iconic buildings.
As we admire the façade of the 15th-century Aragonese Castle, we'll discuss the different historic periods and civilizations that Ortanto has witnessed. These include the Romans, Lombards, Ottomans and Venetians, and we'll discuss their presence in Otranto throughout history.
We'll stroll through the town's beautiful streets and see churches, the harbour, the beach, the Monument for the Martyrs of Otranto and more. In addition, we'll head inside the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Annunciation, an Apulian jewel of Romanesque architecture. While we're inside, we'll look out for the incredible ancient mosaics and talk about what they symbolise.
Following a 1.5-hour private tour of Otranto, we'll say our goodbyes outside the cathedral.
