At this sumo show in Osaka, you'll have an unforgettable experience at the Ochiizumibeya restaurant. If you wish, you can also enjoy a meal—an unforgettable experience!
Why Attend a Sumo Training Session?
As the most iconic martial art in Japanese culture and Japan's national sport, sumo is one of the oldest forms of wrestling. The first recorded sumo fight dates back to 23 BC and is said to have ended with the death of one of the wrestlers.
Witnessing a sumo wrestling match is like seeing thousands of years of this tradition that began with the samurai and has evolved to this day with a simplification of the rules. It's fascinating to witness the effort each wrestler puts in to avoid being knocked down or out of the ring. Also fascinating is the ceremonial ritual that precedes each fight and the mutual respect that the wrestlers have for each other at all times.
Tour Options
When booking, you can choose between 2 different options. Both take place at the Ochiizumibeya restaurant, located in Rinkuoraiminami. You can see the details of each option below.
Show Only (40 Minutes)
As soon as you arrive at the fight venue, you'll be seated in front of the sumo wrestling ring. The host will welcome you and introduce the different wrestlers who will battle it out. For 40 minutes, you'll watch them fight repeatedly in their quest for victory.
Show + Meal (1.5 hours)
This option is perfect for completing your sumo experience. During the match, you'll be able to enjoy the traditional sumo wrestlers' meal: Chankonabe. It's a hearty stew with a mix of white and red meats, all kinds of vegetables, seaweed, eggs, and either noodles or rice.
After the show and lunch, you can head to the kimono area, where you'll get the chance to wear colourful and authentic traditional outfits.
