Peñiscola Day Trip
We'll meet at 9:15 am next to the Oropesa del Mar Tourist Office, where a minibus will be waiting to take us to Peñíscola.
After a 40 minute journey, we'll arrive at this beautiful town on the Costa del Azahar. Are you ready to get to know Peñíscola? During the guided tour we'll walk around its most famous monuments and discover how Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Byzantines and Arabs have left their mark on this place.
From the old artillery park, we'll see Peñíscola's northern beach and Pope Luna's castle. After having the chance of taking some photos of its façade we'll enter the interior of this fortress. Did you know that a bishop went into exile here and decided to break with the papal authority? We'll tell you everything about the so-called Western Schism, a historical fact in the Catholic Church.
The route will also take us to see the exteriors of other emblematic buildings such as the Casa de las Conchas or the Church of Santa Maria, which dates back to the 13th century.
We'll also visit the Bufador, a hole that naturally opens up between the rocks and the sea, producing a curious howling sound. According to the legends, this sound scared away many of the assailants who wanted to take control of Peñíscola over the years.
The last stop will be at the Museum of the Sea. Photographs, drawings, old engravings, fishing equipment and other objects will allow us to learn more about the seafaring tradition of this Castilian town.
Once the visit to the museum is over, it's time to say goodbye to Peñíscola. We'll return by minibus and end the tour at 1:45 pm back in Oropesa del Mar.
