On this excursion to Moray and the salt mines of Maras, we'll discover some of the best-kept secrets of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We'll see two of the most emblematic places of the Inca civilization.

Description

We'll pick you up at your hotel at the designated time before heading to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, where some of Peru's most breathtaking natural enclaves await us.

We'll begin our day trip at the picturesque village of Maras, a small town that has retained its colonial style and is surrounded by breathtaking scenery. From here, we'll go to the archaeological site of Moray, located at 3500 meters (11,500 feet) above sea level, widely believed to have been used as an experimental farm by the Incas over 500 years ago! Here, we'll see the fascinating amphitheater of circular terraces - considered a place of concentration of feminine energy!

We'll go up to a viewpoint to see the salt mines of Maras, which date back to the Inca period and form an essential part of the storied history of the Sacred Valley. This mine comprises more than 3 thousand salt ponds of various sizes belonging to local families. This salt is treated with iodine during the dry season and sold commercially.

We'll then return to the meeting point and conclude our day trip.

Pickup

Please note that we only do pickups from the Plaza de Armas in Cusco or hotels in the historic center of Urubamba, Ollantaytambo, or Yucay. If you're staying in other more remote areas, we'll get in touch with you before the tour to establish an alternative meeting point.

End of the tour

During the booking process, you'll be able to choose where you wish to be dropped off at the end of the tour:

  • Your hotel in the Sacred Valley (Urubamba, Ollantaytambo, or Yucay)
  • In the historic center of Cusco: next to the Plaza de Armas, between Heladeros Street and Regocijo Square.
