Travel to one of the rural Quechuan towns in the Peruvian Andes and learn about their cultures on this trip to the Huilloc community.

1-Day Tour

At the scheduled time we'll pick you up from your hotel in Ollantaytambo and make our way to the Huilloc community to experience what life is like for this indigenous tribe in the Cusco region.

Upon arriving, we'll be welcomed by the members of a craftswomen's cooperative in the centre of the textile-producing town. They'll give us a demonstration and presentation about the types of fabrics they use, and they'll tell us about their relationship with Andean culture and history.

Next, we'll have a lunch of what's called Pachamanca, cooked in a natural oven. The menu includes chicken and potatoes or sweet potatoes. Before we head off, you'll be able to buy a fabric souvenir made by hand by one of the craftswomen.

After 6 hours, you'll be brought back to your hotel where the tour will end.

2-Day Tour

If you have more time and want to make your trip more relaxed, you can select the 2-day tour option. In this case, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy an entire day with a Huilloc family and spend a night as a guest in one of their houses.

In addition to learning about their daily customs, we'll also spend time at one of the lakes of glacier origin in the area and say hello to the alpacas, the most typical Peruvian animal. Did you know that these beautiful animals provide a source of income for thousands of high-altitude Andean families?

We'll have free time to eat with a family, consisting of a traditional lunch cooked in a natural oven, called Pachamanca, which is a way in which these communities prepare certain types of Peruvian dishes.

We'll continue the visit to a textile market, where we'll see the famous crafts that are made here in the Cusco region. Afterwards, there'll be time to rest after the day.

The next morning, we'll have a traditional Andean breakfast that includes tea, oats, eggs, potatoes and ponche de habas, an oat drink made with beans.

After learning more about the culture of this local community, the tour will come to an end, back at your hotel in Ollantaytambo. Until next time!

Accommodation and food

If you choose the 2-day option, you'll have all your meals included, as well as 1 night of accommodation in a private bedroom in a cabin, within the community. Immerse yourself in the Huilloc community!
