Opera and Ballet Theatre Tour
At your chosen time, meet your guide outside the emblematic Opera and Ballet Theatre in Odessa. Before we go inside, we'll take a moment to admire its beautiful neo-baroque façade, built in 1887 after a fire devastated the original building. If you look closely, you'll see sculptures of historic figures linked to the theatre: Mikhail Glinka, Nikolai Gogol and Alexander Pushkin.
Entering the theatre, we'll begin our guided tour visiting the majestic roccoco-style lobby, where you're sure to be enchanted by its lavish elegance and an intriguing legend too... they say that if you stand still in front of the great mirror at the entrance, you won't age for three years! Will it be true?
We'll then head to the theatre auditorium, whose boxes and stalls are richly decorated with red velvet and golden stucco. The acoustics are so impressive that even the slightest whisper reaches every corner. Watching over this luxurious hall is a spectacular chandelier, hanging from a ceiling decorated with scenes from Shakespeare's plays.
While we admire the theatre's architecture and decor, our guide will tell us about some of the most memorable performances that have taken place on this stage. Opera singer Feodor Chaliapin, dancers Isadora Duncan and Anna Pavlova and many other leading artists have left their mark on the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theatre.
At the end of our hour-long guided tour, we'll say goodbye at the main entrance to the theatre.
