Guelaguetza Tour
Description
At the indicated time we'll pick you up from your hotel in Oaxaca and make our way to Teotitlán del Valle, 30 kilometres (18.6 miles) out of the city. Here, we'll begin our immersion in Guelaguetza, a celebration that has its origins in pre-Hispanic times and is currently held on the two Mondays closest to the 16th of July in honour of the Virgen del Carmen.
In Teotitlán, we'll be immersed in the festive atmosphere of the Guelaguetza, where we'll witness traditional dances and admire the impressive textiles of the different regions of Oaxaca. We'll also visit a workshop where we'll learn about the process of making Oaxacan textiles, a tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation. We'll learn all about this ancestral art!
At lunchtime, we'll delight in local cuisine at La Casa de Doña María, an experience that will allow us to savour authentic local dishes in a familiar and cosy atmosphere. After lunch, we'll visit the Centro Cultural Comunitario de Teotitlán, where we'll learn more about the area's archaeological and textile richness.
Our tour will continue at the archaeological site of Mitla, the second most important archaeological site in the state of Oaxaca. Here, we'll learn about Zapotec culture and explore the ancient structures that tell the story of this fascinating civilisation.
At the end of the visit, we'll drop you back at your hotel in Oaxaca, concluding an exciting day of about 9 hours in total.
