On this excursion to the ship graveyard of Moynaq, we'll discover the terrible attack against nature that made the Aral Sea disappear almost completely. A fascinating and eye-opening tour!
Day Trip to the Ship Graveyard of Moynaq
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Nukus at the agreed time and travel to what was once the inner basin of the Aral Sea, specifically to the port of Moynaq.
After a three-hour drive, we'll reach the ship graveyard of Moynaq, a place that will take your breath away upon arrival because of its shocking history. We'll explore this imposing desert full of rusty ships that in the not-too-distant past sailed this sea in the interior of Uzbekistan, purposely dried by humans.
During the visit to the ship graveyard, we'll learn about the terrible attack on nature that was perpetrated decades ago by USSR rulers. We'll pass by the stranded ships that look like they form a real graveyard. It's jaw-dropping!
Next, we'll leave the Moynaq ship cemetery and approach the Aral Sea and Regional History Museum, where we'll continue to learn all about the area's past. After an hour at the museum, we'll return to Nukus.
We'll end the tour back at your hotel after 8.5 hours of sightseeing.
