Join us on this 2-day excursion to the Aral Sea and the ship cemetery to see one of the most breathtaking areas of Uzbekistan. We'll visit Sudochye Lake and the necropolis of Mizdakhan as well.
2-Day Trip to the Aral Sea
Day 1: Nukus - Aral Sea
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Nukus at 8:30 am and head towards the Aral Sea, a scenic 450-kilometer (280-mile) road trip.
During the trip, we'll make several stops so that we can explore the secret enclaves in this part of Uzbekistan. First, we'll stop in the district of Kungrag, one of the ancient commercial crossroads of the country. We'll explore the bazaar here and stroll among the endless stalls full of local products.
Then, we'll continue on the excursion towards Sudochye Lake, connected to the Aral Sea through its channel. Despite the fact that it no longer has water in it, we'll learn about the numerous varieties of birds that inhabit this natural environment. Did you know that more than 230 species have been recorded?
Finally, we'll arrive at the Aral Sea, specifically at the yurt camp where we'll camp and spend the night.
Day 2: Aral Sea - Ship Cemetery - Nukus
We'll have breakfast overlooking the Aral Sea and travel to the ship graveyard of Moynaq, an incredible place full of unique sights and jaw-dropping history. We'll explore this desert that once held a large part of the Aral Sea.
Why is there no more water? And why are the ships abandoned? We'll discover all the details of this attack against nature that was carried out decades ago in the center of Uzbekistan.
The next stop of the day will be at the Mizdakhan necropolis, located next to the remains of the Gyaur-Kala fortress. We'll explore one of the oldest and most visited pilgrimage sites in the country while discovering its secrets. Did you know that its name means "the fortress of non-believers"? You'll learn all about this and many other fascinating facts!
At the end of the day, we'll drop you back off at your hotel in Nukus between 4:30 and 5 pm.
