Welcome to the Met! We'll meet by the pharaoh statue inside the Great Hall at the indicated time and kick off our highlights tour of this iconic cultural institution.
Home to over 2 million pieces of art, spanning 5,000 years of history, the Metropolitan Museum of Art offers a comprehensive journey through art history. Throughout our guided tour, we'll explore the standout pieces that make the museum a world-renowned institution.
Our journey will start at the Egyptian Galleries, where we'll admire the Temple of Dendur which dates back to 10 B.C. From here, we'll move on to the American Wing to admire historic pieces like “Washington Crossing the Delaware” a defining portrait of American independence and identity.
Next up, we'll hop across the pond into the European Wing to admire masterpieces from greats like Vermeer, Rembrandt, Monet, Van Gogh, and Degas. We'll delve into the Baroque and Impressionist art movements gaining a deeper understanding of their significance. Then, it's on to Modern and Contemporary art, where we'll view works by icons like Pablo Picasso and Jackson Pollock.
Finally, we'll reach the Greek and Roman Art area of the museum, for a journey into the past as we step inside a recreated bedroom of a Roman villa that was buried in the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius.
Then, after an enriching 2 hours exploring the best the Met has to offer, we'll bring our tour to an end.
