Excursion to Villa El Chocón + Paleontological Museum
Description
At 9 am, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Neuquén and drive for about an hour south towards Villa El Chocón.
Once we arrive, we'll embark on a tour of the town to discover its main attractions. Our first stop will be at the viewpoint of Lake Exequiel Ramos Mejía. From there, we'll witness the impressive dam of this artificial lagoon. Did you know that it generates hydroelectric power for a significant part of Argentina?
Next, we'll head to the center of Villa El Chocón, where you'll have some free time to explore on your own. Those who wish to do so can take a guided excursion to Cañadón Escondido, where you'll enjoy a trekking route through a unique ravine.
Then, we'll reconvene at the agreed time in the center of Villa El Chocón to take a guided tour of the Ernesto Bachmann Paleontological Museum. In this museum, you'll encounter the magnificent skeleton of Giganotosaurus Carolini, the largest prehistoric carnivore found to date. Prepare to be amazed by this enormous dinosaur!
After exploring the museum, you'll have an hour of free time to have lunch in El Chocón. Following our meal, we'll finally return to your hotel in Neuquén, arriving at approximately 3 pm.
Villa El Chocón & Plaza Huincul (8 hours)
If you'd like to extend the excursion, With this option, we'll follow the same itinerary described in the previous section. Then, after having lunch on your own in Villa El Chocón, we'll continue the excursion to Plaza Huincul. In this town, we'll visit the Carmen Funes Paleontological Museum, where we'll see the skeleton of Argentinosaurus Huinculensis. Did you know that this dinosaur is the largest herbivore found to date?
At the end of the visit to the museum, we'll go to an agritourism center where you can have a snack on your own. Then, finally, we'll conclude the excursion by returning to Neuquén, arriving at your hotel at 5 pm.
