Tour of Tatacoa Natural History Museum + Fossil Workshop
Tour Details
At the designated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel and begin this exciting day in the Tatacoa Desert, which is technically a tropical dry forest and the second driest region in Colombia.
First, we'll visit the village of La Victoria, where we'll participate in a fossil workshop led by a group of young locals who work to protect the paleontological heritage of the area.
During the workshop, we'll learn how to identify fossils, the different types of fossilization, how to extract them from the ground using a technique called enchaquetada ("jacketed extraction"), and how to protect them for further study.
After this unique experience, we'll enjoy a delicious traditional lunch. After lunch, we'll head to the Tatacoa Natural History Museum.
During our guided tour of the museum, we'll have the chance to see some of the fossil collections that have been discovered in this major paleontological site over the years. You'll surely be impressed!
Finally, we'll return to the starting point, wrapping up the activity between 10 and 12 hours after it began.
