UNESCO World Heritage Sites and gorgeous natural settings await you on this private walking tour of Nara. Get ready to explore this unforgettable Japanese city!
Tour Details
At the designated time, we'll pick you up on foot from your hotel in Nara to begin this private tour of the city considered Japan's first-ever capital and the birthplace of Japanese Buddhism. And the best part? You can customise your experience by suggesting any alternative spots you'd like to visit to your exclusive English-speaking guide during the booking process!
It's completely up to you to decide which attractions to visit, and you can indicate them during the booking process. If you're unsure, the guide will suggest a great route to suit your interests. Here is an example of an itinerary you can follow:
Our first stop can be at one of the many UNESCO World Heritage Sites we'll visit during our route: Kofuku-Ji Temple. This five-storey pagoda is known for the priceless Buddhist artefacts it houses, including the famous Ashura statue, an 8th-century masterpiece depicting a celestial being with three faces and six arms. This building has a fascinating history, surviving wars, fires, and political upheaval. You'll be amazed by its endurance!
Want to see Japan's largest Great Buddha statue? You're in luck! Heading over to the Todai-ji Temple in Nara Park, we'll get to admire this 15-metre (49-foot) tall bronze statue, also known as Daibutsu. Did you know that this statue is considered a symbol of peace across the country? See if you can also spot the two guardian statues (Nio), on either side of Buddha protecting the temple from evil spirits.
While we're in Nara Park, we can also spend some time interacting with another iconic feature of the park, the 1200 sacred deer that roam freely around this natural environment. Don't miss out on saying hello to these friendly animals and even feeding them a cracker or two sold at the park's stalls if you wish! Truly, a unique experience in Nara.
After spending some time with Nara's deer, we can make our way to the Kasuga Taisha Temple if you wish, our final stop on this private walking tour. This beautiful temple is particularly notable for its lantern shrine, with thousands of bronze and stone lanterns that light up during certain times of the year. Such a unique cultural treasure in the heart of Nara!
Our tour will come to an end at the spot of your choice, where we'll say our goodbyes after a total of 6 hours.
