Join us on a journey through time in our free tour of Nara, and explore ancient Japan while visiting some of the nation's most significant shrines and temples.
Nara Free Walking Tour
Let's kick off our free tour of Nara by meeting at Kintetsu train station at the scheduled time. Fun fact: Did you know that Nara served as the capital of Japan from 710 to 784?
Our first stop will be Kofukuji, home to an awe-inspiring five-story pagoda that towers over 50 meters (164 feet) tall. In fact, it's the second-tallest wooden pagoda in Japan and is a quintessential symbol of the city.
Next up, we'll make our way to Nara Park, known for its deer population that freely roam its grounds. It's no wonder Nara is often referred to as the "city of deer!" Be sure to have your camera ready to capture these enchanting creatures at every turn.
As we wander through the area lush with cherry blossoms, we'll also stroll by the National Museum, dedicated to preserving Japan's Buddhist religious heritage. And let's not forget the majestic Todai-ji, a prominent Buddhist temple.
We will continue the tour to the Nigatsudo Temple, declared a World Heritage Site and one of the Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara. The perfect finishing touch to this journey into the past!
Finally, we'll return to the starting point 2.5 hours later after the beginning of the activity.
