Takayama and Shirakawago Day Trip
At the time indicated, we'll meet at the west exit of Nagoya Station. From here, we'll set off on our day trip to explore two treasures of Japan: Takayama and Shirakawago.
After approximately 2 hours by bus, we'll arrive in Takayama, a small city in the Hida Mountains. We'll stroll down Sannomachi Street in the old town and admire the traditional wooden houses and temples hidden along the alleyways. Have you heard of Sarubobo Dolls? Find out what they're used for!
You'll have free time to enjoy a delicious meal at a local restaurant. We'll tell you about the best and most authentic restaurants in Takayama to try Japanese recipes. After eating, we'll visit Miyagawa and Jinya-mae, two markets where you'll see how locals spend their day-to-day lives.
Then, we'll get back on the road and head to our next destination: Shirakawago, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Once here, we'll walk around its streets and see the triangular straw roofs of its buildings. These houses are over 250 years old and represent rural life in Japan.
Plus, we can visit the Ogimachi Castle Observatory Deck to get impressive views of the charming town of Gassho-mura and Mount Hakusan. We'll make our last stop at Ochiudo Cafe, very popular for its vibrant atmosphere.
Finally, we'll head back to Nagoya where we'll arrive back at the initial meeting point after 10 hours.
